Ending the challenge....

Sooo, with this I am ending the challenge. I did not really sew up an item for every day.
At least I did some mending in the last days, which I will not show you because I don`t want to bore you to death!
To draw some conclusions, I am happy that my refashioning and mending pile reduced. Furthermore I have some more selfstitched garments that I really like and had planned to sew up for some time!
BUT sewing under time pressure and having to take photos of each and everything was very exhausting! In the past I thought it is good to finish the garments as fast as possible, but for the future I will appreciate the process of creation much more. I think taking some time to finish the clothes makes them more precious.
All in all I can recommend a challenge like this, but you should be aware that it really is a challenge!
Hope you at least liked my little challenge a bit! See you soon with me following Casey`s Sew along and participating in Self Stitched September!

Day 20 - 24: Mood is low....

Yes it is true the mood for sewing is not there on everyday, especially not when it is really hot and you do not want to move at all! nonetheless I did sew up some things and now I will show you all of them in one post:
Before

After

After

This one is a Trenchcoat I bought from ebay. I took in the sides, removed the shoulder plakets, lengthened the arms. And now I think it is okay, not brilliant work, but okay.

This is a skirt of my mum. It was a bit wide for her, so I took it in about one inch on each side. Very easy and very boring. but that were the Things I wanted to get done in this month!

This skirt I bought somewhere on sale, but it was too big and I did not really liked the idea of taking it in and wearing it as a skirt, so I just chopped it off, hemmed the raw edge and now -voila- I have a circle shawl! This way I like the paisley print.

This is the new released Burdastyle shrug, which is really easy to make, it took about one hour from beginning to end! Really nice!

This is a cardigan I had in my stash, but it was really oldfashioned ( and not on the cool vintage way). So I chopped it off to make a bolero from it. Then I shortened the arms. I am not shure whether I like it... Somehow it looks like chopped off, a style I do not really like... But I don`t know any way to change this, Has anyone ideas concerning this?

And this one began his life as to short and very baggy knit pants. Now I have some great pants for my Gym class. I already wore them today!

Sorry for the picture heavy post!

Day 19: Copycats rule!

This dress is sooo inspired (or maybe somehow copied) from Veronica Darlings great refashion! You just have to check it out! I absolutely loved it since the first time I saw it!
I bought some blue cotton sweatshirt material for this, which really feels great. And than I used Burda Style pattern 109 from 05/2010. I cut out a size 38, but had to make some major adjustments, which might also have occured from the stretchy fabric, not sure.  This was not so bad because the many seams made all adjustments very easy.

I also added the gathering like in Veronicas dress and I have to say it was much easier than I would have thought! I love the outcome, love that it is knit fabric, love that it is blue! just great!!

Day 18: VIP fabric

Inspired by last weeks Sew Weekly theme I made my way up to my stash and pulled out my VIP fabric. It is japanese cotton, which I bought this spring on a fabric market. It was the most expensive fabric I ever bought, it was about 18 euros for only one meter, that is why I just bought one meter. When I came home I realised that it is also just one meter wide, that is why it sat there in the stash and I had no idea what to do with it, until now the Sorbetto came out and with the wonderful sleeve pattern I made it up. And it is really great.
In this version the sleeves became a bit longer, somewhere around ellbowlength. Really nice, I think it was the right decision for my VIP fabric!

Day 17: New Shirtdress

This is another shirtdress, this time with 3/4 length sleeves, which are my absolute favourite sleeve length, so nice and classy!
The material is some rayon blend I got on sale for three euros for 1,5 m. I already wore it several times since I made it and I just can reccommend the Sew U Home Stretch book to every seamstress around there! These Shirtdresses are just the perfect garment! (I know I repete myself, but it is just so true!)

Day 16: Flower Sorbetto

This Sorbetto is made from some lovely cotton fabric I got from the mother of my darling! I only had about 80 cm of it, so this sorbetto became a bit short, but I love it nevertheless! Sorbetto is so easy and fast to make up!

Day 15: Tank dress

This dress is made from some ribbed knit fabric I bought on sale at my local fabric store. I wore it last weekend when I went for breakfast with my parents. The dress is perfect for hot days, very light. Unfortunately it tends to stretch out a bit while wearing, this might occur from the ribbing, I don`t know really. But after washing I think it gets the original shape back! The pattern is drafted by myself but the basic was the Sew U Home Stretch book, which is my absolute favourite sewing book!

Day 11-14 : new decided

I decided to count the four ponchos i made for my mum and her friends as garments for my challenge, although I was against this in my last post. I am doing so because otherwise I wuold never be able to catch up with my posts any time soon.
I have to admit that sewing something everyday and than taking pictures oof it is a very hard business! so I do not want to talk any longer but try to post all the garments I whipped up in the last days. Hope you like them!

Day 10: Ponchoose^^

My younger sister wanted me to stitch up a Poncho she can wear on chilly evenings. This is how I came to sewing up the most boring garment I ever made. It was just cutting a small rectangle from the middle of the fabric. and the so much pressing and stitching all the open sides up. It took about one hour to whip this one up, but one hour can be very long if it is so boooooring. But nevertheless I hope she likes this one and it was woth the hour!

After finishing this one my mom wanted three (!!!) more of them to give to her friends. So I stitched them too. I do not count them as garments for the challenge because that are not really what I call garments! I hope I can show you at least a picture with the women wearing the ponchos in some days!
Greeting, Tschüss!

Day 9: Flowers and fruit on my dress

For day nine I stitched up an easy T-Shirt-dress from the Built by Wendy Sew U book. This time I ommited the waist seam that the pattern recommends, because I did not want to break the print. So it is basically to pieces and the binding I made myself for the neckline and the armholes.

The fabric is from the internet and it is biological cotton which is very light and super comfy. Perfect for summer days or maybe just chilling around!
Bye bye, Tschüss

Day 8: Sky Shorts!

Again a refashion project! My mum gave me a pair of long trousers with wide legs and many pockets on them. Unfortunately I deleted the before picture. So no before today.

I planned to create a cuff on the shorts, but after ripping the ugly pockets from the legs I realized that the stitches were all visible. So I planned otherwise and opted for the plain and easiest method to just chop and hem the shorts. It is the first pair of shorts I own and I like the outcome.

Unfortunately it is not very summery in germany right now, so I don`t know whether it will get any wear this year!
Thank you for visiting, Tschüss

Day 7: Vintage flowers!

The fabric for this skirt came from a box of vintage fabrics I bought at ebay. It was precut and already hand-basted as a skirt, ready with pockets. So it was really easy for me. I just sewed the basted seams, hemmed and added the big elastic band. wonderful!

It is so comfy and I really like the look and how it flows around my body!
Bye bye, Tschüss!

Day 6: Catch up posts!!!

I am sorry for the lack of posts in this week. I was really busy and did not come along to take some photos. Today I am going to post the garments for the last week! Hope you like them!
The first one is a refashion. I bought the dress on the flea market because I liked the green. Later at home I realized that someone dyed the dress, which is a good crafty thing... BUT the seams obviously stayed white... and then someone tried to paint the seams black with a felt pen - no good idea. I forgot to take pictures of it, but believe me, it was not nice!

That is why I decided to make a little skirt out of it. I used a pattern from the Built by Wendy Sew U book. It was fast and easy to sew up.

I am not sure whether I like it... it is a bit high waisted for my taste... so if someone would like to get this one - contact me! The first one will get it!
Thank you for visiting. Tschüss!

Day 5: Pink shirt refashion

This shirt was a hand me down that I actually never wore. I thought it was a bit plain....
I just chopped off the sleeves, hemmed the arms to create some cuffs and took some of the leftover material to create a ruffle along the neckline.
This was again a really easy refashion, but it made a plain shirt a unique piece of clothing! Refashioning rules!

Day 4: Little shirt

A little shirt I made. It is from some knit fabric I had in my stash. The pattern is drafted from Sew U: Home Stretch Book, I adapted the original one a bit, to get the fit right. I already made some of this shirts because they are so easy and fast to create and to be honest, stretch-shirts are what I wear most of the time!

Day 3: Sorbetto shirt

Today I made a Sorbetto top, a free pattern from Colette patterns. It is great and really famous in blogersphere. It is from a little piece of some vintage polyester stuff I bought together with other vintage fabrics off ebay. It was the best thing I could do with such a little piece - yay for Sorbetto!
Making silly faces !

I was really inspired by Menas seven days of Sorbetto challenge, and the best about it: she constructed a sleeve pattern for the original sleeve less blouse! I think I am in love with this style!
Sorry for the bad hair - it did not really work this morning

If you haven`t checked Menas project, do now! I highly recommend it!
Have a nice day, Tschüss

Tiny little refashion

For my second day I had a really little refashion project in my stash!
This skirt I bought at the flea market some weeks ago and the size was really okay, a bit much comfort, but that is okay for summer days and so I decided to leave it this way. But... it was to long for my taste. It did reach somewhere beyond my knee.
Before
As I said it is a really tiny refashion because the only thing I did was fold under at the original hem seam (can you say that?) and than stitched in place. No cutting, no finishing seams. I think in all it took about 15 minutes to finish.
After
All in all I really like the outcome - a new piece for my wardrobe and one piece less in my stash. That is what I wanted for this week! hey!!!
Tschüss!

Day 1: Blue dress

To be honest I worked on this dress for some more days, but I finished it yesterday, so it is my first dress for the month long challenge.

I made a muslin for this and had to alter some things to get the fit right but now it really fits great! If anyone wants to make this dress himself I highly recommend making a muslin. Because it is strapless otherwise you could struggle with the dress wandering where you do not want to have it!
